I loved this episode. It really moved the storyline along and answered questions and posed a lot more. All these twists and turns are getting to be the hallmark of this season. I'm loving it.
It took a few minutes to realise that Crowley was torturing a shapeshifter of himself...I liked that...plus it gave us a look at what he was up to and where the Alphas had been taken.

We get Meg turning up and goading Dean again ..*flashbacks to Born Under a Bad Sign...*
I like that we get to see what's happened to her, she's a great female demon who's made it through a few seasons and such a survivor!
So she's now on the run and Sam makes a deal with her but needs help and calls Cas.
but just when it looked as if he's going to be ignored yet again Sam spins him a yarn and a weary Cas appears.
When Sam said because you owe me. I think I may have cheered! I've been waiting patiently for him to say that. The 'real' Sam wouldn't say it because of all his own guilt..but this Sam had no problem saying it. Cas betrayed both the boys in When The Levee Breaks when he let Sam out of the Panic Room and we all know where that led to. How does Sam know Cas did it? He would have learned so much when he was Lucifer's vessel...so I'm thinking that's where. Even if he was talking about Cas not answering his prays when he was first brought back, I'm happy with that as well!

Sam is relentless here; I really loved how he talked in such a hard nosed way to Cas. But what makes me smile is that Cas could crush Sam in an instant but obviously won't because... well...he's a good Angel - but was soon in Sam's face calling him boy! It really shows how much he's like a parent trying to deal with a petulant child (or two petulant children if you count Dean as well).
He's got so much on his plate at the moment, in fact he's looking wearier and wearier every time he puts in an appearance. At the end of the episode it was good seeing Dean saying he wanted to help....and a bit sad learning that Cas has just about had enough with his struggle in Heaven.
And then Sam lies to Dean as to why Cas is helping. That's such a decent thing for him to do...something a friend or brother would do. So is Sam just acting like he cares again or is he really wanting to do it? If he wants to do it what does that imply?
I really loved Dean's reaction to Samuel's accusation of him being a hypocrite.
Dean knows with a capital K how hard it is..and how wrong it is to make demon deals, unlike Samuel who hasn't had the experience. Samuel is in a similar place to Dean when he sold his soul for Sam...although I couldn't see Dean bringing back Sam if he'd had to betray Mary or John to do it. So there's something odd about Samuel doing it..is there something else going on here? Or maybe Samuel's not a very nice guy; after all, we don't know much about him so maybe he was a totally selfish and single minded dick when he was alive before.

What a scary conversation between Cas and Dean about the state of Sam's soul! Heartbreaking for Dean, but wonderful to see how much he wants his brother back...and he's right, how could he leave the real Sam down in the pit being tortured for ever!

It looks as if Cas is now getting in touch with his feelings. Kissing Meg was a surprise.
Ever since seeing future!Cas in The End, and learning that he's vulnerable to human vices when he's feeling down. It doesn't seem such a stretch that now the war in Heaven's going badly for him and he's feeling worn out and despondant that he's seeking comfort where he can find it...including the porn!

He escaped and searched for Dean and then saved him from the ghouls. Is this an indication that this soulless Sam is beginning to care for Dean? He didn't have to do that...he could have saved himself. He's already made the decision of not wanting his soul back so there was nothing stopping him from leaving and going his own way.

Questions:
I wonder what Cas did with the monsters at the end?
Favourite quotes:
"I mean... the guy's a freakin' Replicant. "
Love the reference to Blade Runner. One of my favourite classic SciFi movies.
This is a great way of implying something revolting without actually saying or showing it!!!
Dean: Sam?
Sam: Yeah?
Dean: I'm standing in pee!
Sam: Consider yourself lucky.
Dean: Yikes. That sucks.
Disturbing?
The torture of Meg.
On the one hand, this show has horror and this is just a bit more of the same. Women, on the whole, are written surprising well on the show, so no complaints there and if the woman being tortured had been, say, Lisa it would have been so much more disturbing. Meg, being a demon, has no qualms about torturing anyone else so on that score I'm not bothered. So does it really matter that there was an implied sexual element to the torture? I know it didn't last long and wasn't graphic but all things considered, I'd rather they hadn't done it!

All kinds of thoughts ran through my head as Sam bit into his wrist.......I may have drooled a bit!
But how did he draw the sigil on the ceiling? Oh hell, I don't care...it was awesome!

Alas poor Fergus... we didn't know you so well.

Sam! Don't walk away.....
