This episode is a 'first' in a couple of ways.
  • Jensen directing...
  • And an ep which has hardly any Sam and Dean in it.
I don't know anything about directing but I knew Jensen would do a good job. I didn’t notice any difference in the quality of the episode but I reckon that’s how it should be.
The hardly any Sam and Dean is something else though,  and I’ll get to that later. So…on to the episode itself:

I loved the first scene which was set soon after Lucifer had been thrown into the cage. Bobby wasn’t wasting anytime trying to get his deal with Crowley sorted. You kind of knew Crowley would have an interesting clause in the contract and I had a sneaky admiration for him bringing along his ‘pet’ as security.

Then we have the peek into Bobby’s life and how he deals with Rufus and a possible romantic interest all the while trying to find out about Crowley. He does have his hands full all the time it seems. I really liked the female cop who turned up and it shows how much the community  appreciates him.....or is it that women just have a soft spot for him! :)

I loved Bobby really laying into Dean and Sam about their attitude to him. He has a good point but it didn’t really ring true when Dean was baring his soul about Sam. I know Dean’s worried about him but somehow it seemed very unDean like. Anyhow, off they go to Scotland to help out …flying no less. Poor Dean.

So after the deal is done and Bobby’s contract is over turned, why didn’t they kill Crowley anyway? Sam did have his say on keeping the deal. That’s interesting. It may have some meaning which we’ll find out about later. Or maybe it’s important for them to be seen to be deal keepers. Otherwise they’ll have a bad reputation which won’t help them in the their future dealings with demons when they really need them.

And why did Crowley leave his bones there all these years and not hide them? Arrogance is my best guess. He never thought that anyone would ever find out who he was let alone where he was buried.

I had a very different reaction to most people after watching this ep, because I felt really flat and dissatisfied . It wasn’t because I didn’t like the ep because I did…a lot but when we saw the guys in the car at the end, I realised how much I missed them. An episode really isn’t the same without them. Sam’s screen time was only a minute and Dean’s a bit more but not much. I think this ep will sit better with me when I have a re-watch and watch 2 eps together. Maybe it will then feel less lacking.

Loads of great lines as usual.
My favourite:

Bobby: Doesn't sound like our kind of thing. Better drop a dime to the FBI. *The FBI phone rings.* Willis, FBI.…. No, Garth, not me the FBI, the real FBI! How are you still alive?

Anyhow it looks like it’s back to normal next week….and them some! I’ve seen the trailer!

Yeah, I had the same thoughts about Crowley leaving his bones around. As much as I enjoyed the little peak in Bobby's life, I had my own little rant earlier about Dean not even asking Crowley, king of hell, if he knew how Sam got out. But I'm over it now and pretending in my own mind that he did and Crowl just didn't answer. It's the only way I can live with that flub.

Other than that, it was fun.

It's a bit odd for me to like an ep and be dissatisfied with it at the same time. That's what this show does to you. It totally gets under your skin. :D
