After enduring what seemed like the longest wait in history......it's back!
And what an episode!
So...we start off with the Road So Far montage...and...ta-dah! Aerosmith's Back In The Saddle. Sam's soul is back and so is Classic Rock. Awesome.
We get a quick peek of the dragon and the maiden in distress in the first scene, before getting to the most important scene of all...Dean fretting about Sam as he lies there unconscious.

Oh Cas...way to make Dean feel terrible. You really do need to improve your bedside manner.

But I love how you take forever to roll those shirt sleeves down!
We didn't have to wait too long to discover the state Sam's in, and see if he's back to his old self...
And yeees!

Here it is. The hug! Lets just wait a while and enjoy it.

Ready? Okay moving on because....
Sam's hungry... not surprisingly. He's been out for 10 days straight with only the IV to hydrate him!

And let the keeping-more-secrets begin. Gah! how frustrating is that!

They know each other so well and Sam suspicious already!

Oh Dean, go on... tell him, tell him, tell him! No more secrets..no more lies!

Aw! Poop!face Bobby not's so happy....but I can understand that. He'll get over it! I wasn't sure how Bobby was going to be after everything he'd been put through but his reactions were pretty reasonable to me.
But Dean's now so happy he's sending Death a fruit basket! It's great to see Dean like this again.
To prove the boys really are back together we get them in the Impala having an extra brotherly moment.

Love the way the whole scene was done...from the conversation to the lighting, while Jethro Tull's A New Day Yesterday playing. Perfect.
The puppy eyes are back with a vengence!

Dean's like a proud father, seeing Sam persuading the girl witness to let them in.

Sam: You steal that from her room?
Dean: I loved that you would ask me that!
More proof to Dean that Robo!Sam's no more.

More brotherly banter.... and I realised just how much I've missed it.
Sam: So what kind of thing likes virgins and gold?
Dean: P. Diddy?
(he who made a song and dance over Lucifer's coming on Twitter - so great stuff...revenge Supernatural style )
Sam: You know it's comforting?
Dean: What's that?
Sam: I die for a year...came back... and you're still not funny.
Dean: Shut up, I'm hilarious

Sam's suspicions continue.....and so doesn't waste any time calling Cas...

And this time he appears really quickly and OMG Cas wants to hug..and Sam backs away!!!!!!! Awkward!
Because, yes.. we then get crafty Sam. Cas, you've still so much to learn about humans! As Dean said...like a child. You're so easily played. You didn't really stand a chance against Sam on a mission.

Poor Sammy, I don't know what you were expecting...but not that!

And while Sam's trying to digest that huge revelation, Dean's trying to prove himself worthy.
I'm not a big lover of slapstick but Jensen seems to be able to give it just the right mixture of Dean cockyness, embarassment and fun in the scene, to make it work.

Dean and explosives...that's a deadly combo if ever I saw one. It's never going to end well

Fire in the hole!!! Oh sorry thought it was Stargate!

Now Sam knows and doesn't know how to tell Dean that he knows..and round and round we go.

But no time for that now...there are maidens to be saved and dragons to slay....all with the help of Sam's longer arms!
At least they get some tangible reward this time. The dragons treasure!
And Dean's just loving his new found wealth. That'll keep them in beer for a few months.

Sam: Why don't you just roll in it?
Dean: I rarely have wealth.

Then the heart to heart...
Sam's really is back...and sorry for what he's done, even if he can't remember doing it!

I'm surprised that the writers have Sam not remembering anything at all of his soulless one and half years but I suppose they're deciding to play with that in the coming episodes. But that's okay because I loved the way the writers decided to play this overall and didn't have more secrets and lies lurking there. It was beautifully done. I loved it.
The threads of the story continue to weave their stuff and one of the virgin girls is sacrificed by using her to open the gates to Purgatory and is immediately regurgitated...........
