Supernatural: Season 6 x 03 “The Third Man”

Patience is a virtue so they say and this week I had to have bucket loads of it  but for some reason I enjoyed the waiting.  I’d seen the clips so I knew that we’d be getting some yummy Sam so it was like looking at presents under the Xmas tree, all that anticipation is  sooooo exciting.  And then …….

(Excuse me for one moment.)

Squeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

The sweaty work out.  Damn!  and what a fantastic body  Jared has. The perfect specimen of a man.  The look on his face as he talked with the luckiest female on the planet, that was  pure unadulterated sex, sex, sex. Not a hint of arrogance or pleasure but something else entirely.
I loved that the tatt is still there and for some reason I couldn’t take my eyes of his low  slung jeans and belt!
I could hardly think after that.

Oh and Sammy? Please pay attention here. You so DO NOT have to PAY for sex. …ever! You bad boy you,  *drifts off into my happy place* Although saying that it does indicate that he’s not wanting  any emotional attachment with his sex at the moment and I thought he had a curious, almost puzzled look on his face when he threw the girls number into the bin. That was interesting. It was as if he didn’t understand the meaning of the proposal.

Oh yes...and what a contrast that scene was to  Dean dreaming of being in bed at home with Lisa. So gentle and full of love for her…that was nice. Plus,  the more shirtless Winchesters the better I have to say.

I loved  the  scenes of Dean doing those little morning stretches at the waters edge as Sam sweated with his gym work…that was very nicely done.

The blue shirt Sam was wearing later in the hotel room! I love the wardrobe department.

So onto the plot. I believe there is one of those in there somewhere amongst the naked torsos and the sex.

Dean’s  prayer for  Cas was really funny  but Sam’s bitchface and Dean’s following look  was hilarious. Loved it.

And it was good to see Dean sticking up for Sam when Cas gave him a hard time….the same as Sam did for him  last week.

So now we have the new badass Cass back with a plot consisting of the various powerful ancient Heavenly weapons in the hands of dubious angels. It’s going to be interesting to see what these weapons can do and how this fits in with the overall season. I had to laugh at the cutting down of the staff of Moses so that you could get more mileage out of it and therefore get more souls. Very entrepreneurial of Balthazar.

It was great  meeting  Balthazar and I loved him being an amoral angel. Are any of the angels happy I wonder? Even with their new found freedoms. Anyway,  I’m looking forward to seeing him again.

I notice that Cas dispensed with the niceties when doing the spell, like asking for Dean’s permission,  before grabbing his  hand and cutting him.   He really does think he has a ‘special’ relationship with him if he can do that and get away with it.

This was such a Ben Edlund episode  with all that grossness. It’s been a while since I had to watch part of an episode  through my fingers.

I felt quite disappointed when Sam’s car got trashed as it was a sign of his new independence,  but I’m happy now they’ll both be travelling in the Impala again.  It’s going to be fun seeing what kind of supplies Sam’s picked up on his travels  when we get to see them eventually.  Some interesting stuff I hope.

The talk at the end was very revealing. This time I liked Dean’s attitude. It came across as caring and genuine instead of abrasive and suspicious.   But  Sammy, beautiful and sexy as you are ….there’s something definitely up with you.  I first thought that it was just a way of suppressing your emotions so that you could cope with the horror of it all. But, the way you stood by as Cas tortured the boy…the attitude with the whore and now there’s the way you spoke to Dean. You sounded like…gah! I can hardly bear to say it….Lucifer.

But,  on the other hand, Sam’s been working his butt off since he’s been back so if he was Lucifer or under his influence why would he do that?!!!! Doesn’t seem very Lucifer-ish to me. And  being a workaholic is  a tried and tested way for people to bury their problems.  And there are so many ’Sam’ moments peppered throughout these first three episodes: the bitchface, the genuine Sammy smiles, the little snarky brotherly comments to Dean here and there. All pure Sam.  But then again perhaps that’s a red herring planted there by the dastardly Ben Edlund.

Incidentally Ben Edlund also wrote The End and with it the piece with Lucifer and Dean in the garden no less. It can’t be a coincidence that Sam sounded like Lucifer for a moment when he said ‘ You know what it does to you. It tortured you.’  Now that sounded like Lucifer talking. Both  by  it’s content and the reasoning.  His explanation to Dean made perfect sense., just like Lucifer’s reasoning on why he  felt betrayed by God. It could be just Ben’s writing there but I somehow doubt it. He’s a very smart cookie.

In the first episode when Sam hugged Dean it crossed my mind  that Sam had come back without his soul and I dismissed it as absurd  but now it’s looking more likely. Or some version of it.

I can’t take it anymore and it’s only the third ep.

I love this show to pieces.  Complete with boils, locusts and bloody splatterings.

Quotes:

Castiel: “ We can rule Moses out as a suspect”
---------
Sam: My car!

Dean: Okay…silver lining”
----

Dean: Now I lay me down to sleep,  I pray to Castiel to get his feathery ass down here.

Sam: You’re an idiot.

Dean: Stay positive.

Sam: Oh I am positive.

I like where your thoughts are going on this. Man, this was a fantastic episode in so so many ways.

I'm on board with the Sam's soul is not intact theory. That so explains his behavior. And especially after Balthazar's comment about souls being a hot commodity. Either that, or we are purposely being led astray to think that. Clever, clever writers.

It really was a great episode.

Unless the writers have something extra-ordinary up their sleeves, and I wouldn't put it passed them, I think the soul tampering explanation makes sense. I'm also thinking that Sam isn't actually aware of it so his behaviour seems normal to him. It would fit with everything we've seen of him so far. Including the way Samuel is behaving towards him.

I knew you'd be quick at getting a post up about this ep! :p
