I loved this episode. Here are my thoughts after only one watch. I really must see this one again soon.
So after a hard day in the saddle Arthur and Merlin stopped off at the pub….I mean Ye Olde Tavern.
Merlin didn’t think it was a good idea but then enjoyed not being just a servant for once. Aaw and I loved Merlin’s face when the ‘wench’ said he was handsome…just loved it.
Merlin was right though it definitely wasn‘t a good idea. Had to laugh when all those ‘bad guys ‘ crowded in; Merlin‘s face was a picture. And so we get the classic bar-room brawl…hehehe.
And then…..oh my! the handsome enigmatic stranger. Be still my beating heart. Who is that actor? I’m sure I’ve seen him somewhere before…but anyhow, Gwaine… guh! My type of guy. Tall, dark and a bit of a dish…very nice. So he saves the day and wins everyone’s hearts…except Uther of course…but then he is a bit of a …well how shall I put this?…an arse.
Oh yes….back to Gwaine…he gets whumped and ends up shirtless. I’m not complaining of the shirtless this time…yum, yum, yum.
So we get the bullies in the village stocks. There’s a few people I could stick in there myself at the moment….soft fruit obviously (ok maybe just a little bit firm) …splat! Very satisfying.
The conversation between Merlin and Gwaine was really touching and we get to learn about Gwaine's past a bit and find out that both he and Merlin have secrets relating to their fathers. Plus we find out that he is of noble stock but doesn't like it…well of course he doesn't…he’s the perfect guy and then he saves Merlin from the two bullies. A hero. *swoons*
Arthur did himself proud standing up to his father...but of course Uther wasn't going to listen to reason here, but at least he didn't have Gwaine executed. I'll give him a point for that.
Onto the tournament. It was a bit difficult to see what was going on in the mock battle…to see who was who…but it didn’t really matter as it was exciting and Merlin got to use his magic. Gwaine risked his life to save Arthur…again. I wonder why he did that…he had no reason to come back other than that he had ‘hero’ running through his veins. *swoons again*
Finally Gaius reveals that enchantment was at work and that our enigmatic Gwaine is indeed a hero…but how did Uther react? Like he’d sucked on a lemon that’s how. I’m wondering if his character is going to have any redeeming features in the future because at the moment they are few and far between.
I know Merlin gets along well with Arthur… but with Gwaine, who sees his own nobility as a curse rather than a blessing, he would have a true friend. Arthur needs to watch out he could lose Merlin and Gwen to him. And Gwen would be much happier with him I reckon. I really love Gwen, she deserves a good and kindly man in her life.
I love how Arthur is jealous about the attention Gwaine gave to Gwen, maybe that’ll be the little nudge he needs to give Gwen the attention she deserves.
So come back Gwaine, you’re needed in Camelot and Merlin will undoubtedly need your help when everyone finds out about his magic.
Oh..ok then … I want him back to drool over.
