I know what you mean about Sam being cut off. That was a bit glaring...especially then have him say he'd die for Cas. I don't think the relationship stuff is Ben Edlund's forte (by his own admission) and he's also a bit of a Dean!boy so I'm not really surprised with what we got.
I think I was prepared for it to be a Cas ep and enjoyed it for what it was.
