Great scenes, wonderful dialogue, more warm brotherly banter, pieces continuing to fall into place with the ongoing story arc, and Dean being a Sheriff and gun slinger!
And the opening title was perfect.
Dean has a plan!

And gets to wear a blanket.
"It's a serape"
Ah yes...sorry Dean.
Sam looked wonderfully awkward in that rather fine girlie shirt.
I look stupid!
No Sam...no you don't.
Zapped to Wyoming.
You both look mighty fine boys.
Sam trying to shake off the 'authenticity'.
As soon as the boys walked into the saloon bar, the look on Dean's face said it all...and the disappointments kept coming. Dean was so excited and then had his bubble burst with the scabby saloon girl, his drink tasting of gasoline and his naff blanket getting insulted!
But I think the shoot out with the Phoenix more than made up for it.
Had to laugh at the pile of the Sheriff's ashes with his shiny badge perched on top. I was surprised though, when the badge was pinned on Dean, he looked a bit concerned. I would had thought he'd have enjoyed it but I suppose this was the point when he knew things were getting serious.
So off Sam goes to find Samuel Colt. He looked good on the horse, even if he made it look as if he's never done it before. I'm assuming Sam hadn't, Jared has.
Samuel Colt was awesome, and with Sam all clean shaven and clean clothed, it made Colt seem even more of a crusty old hunter and of his time. Great contrast and great conversation between them both.
“Giant from the future with a magic brick...”
Although how Samuel Colt managed to understand Sam's magic brick requires a bit of a stretch of the imagination...but....the amazing dude did build the Devil's Gate and the Colt so maybe not! The man's extremely smart and before his time! I'll let them have that one.
Loved the Phoenix. Then it turned out he wasn't a bad guy as such, but Dean had to gank him anyway. That was a kind of nod back to the earlier Dean as he never considered that demons were worth saving in those days. It was all a bit black and white for him then and I think he prefers it that way.
“Yippi kay ay mother..........”
Nods to Back to the Future.
“Where you're going they don't take plastic.”
Clint Eastwood
The ending with the parcel delivery.
I'd no idea who Walker, Texas Ranger was. At first I thought he said Walter!! I did look it up and have since been told what it means....sometimes the references pass me by.
And Cas...what have you done? A dirty little secret indeed if you have your loyal followers turning against you. I liked seeing one of his lieutenant's even if she didn't last long.
Things are really starting to fall into place with the souls thing.
Did anyone else see Sunrise Wyoming at the start and see the clock hit noon and thought ...hello that's not right! Oh yeah...the place is called Sunrise.
I thought this was a very Dean centric ep...and showcased what Jensen does so well; warm irreverent humour one minute and cool tough sexy dude the next. Sam kind of took a back seat in this one, although he some great hilarious 'awkward' scenes in there. But he never got to wear the cool duds that Dean did, which being a Sam girl I'd have loved to have seen, because he'd have looked really, really good riding a horse in authentic cowboy gear. Although he did get to wear the sexy hat! So I think it was done for two reasons: to balance things out in the hotness score as Sam had more than his fair share of cool sexy scenes when he was soulless earlier: and the great scene he had with Samuel Colt which really wouldn't have worked so well if he hadn't been in present day clothing. So all in all I liked the way the whole thing was well balanced and thought out. In fact I loved it.
But I really wanted to see Sam with a gun holster!!! * sobs*
